Decarboxilation

Decarboxilation

Decarboxilation is the process of turning THCA into THC and CBDA into CBD in Cannabis. Raw cannabis contains CBDA and THCA which will not get you stoned, so you need to heat it so that the psychoactive ingredients are available.

Easiest way to decarb is to smoke a joint, bowl or bong!

To make edibles you must Decarb first!

  1. Old school method – in the oven.
cannabis going into the oven to decarb

110 degrees Celsius for 110 minutes

The smell of decarbing in the oven overwhelms the house, but its a great smell!

2.  Use a decarb machine like the Argent lift.

only holds an ounce,

no smell though

3. Sous Vide Method (or Sous Weed) Introduced to me by a new Weed Friend! No other way to go but the Sous Vide method from now on!

From the Culinary method of boiling in a bag -Sous Vide. NO SMELL

Captures 100% of the THC, CBD, flavanoids and terpenes!

prepare your cannabis, sugar leaves, or the product left behind from making hash or vaping

Sealer machine pulls all the air out of the bag before sealing it closed.

place bags into boiling water

95 degrees Celsius for an hour

NOTE: The gases released during the decarboxylation process called EPM301 are 100 times stronger then THC according to Dr Mecholum.

For the best Buzz ever, stick a straw into the inflated bag of decarboxylated cannabis and inhale!

This bag of Sous Vide is decarboxilated and ready to be infused into oils, butter or eaten as it is.

Onto making oils or butter from the decarbed cannabis.

You can cap this and eat it to get high as well.

4. Natural method – let your cannabis decarboxilate in an air tight mason jar.

7 year old cannabis

Over time your cannabis will decarb on its own. This Purp strain from 2011 was tested July 2018 and it had a distinct Carvone terpene smell, almost no green left, pleasant easy smoke, no after taste.  Ash was white and paper had telltale marks of quality cannabis. Still gets you high!
